It took me time to share my experience as I lack words adequately strong to convey my satisfaction. The professionalism of every staff on duty was unrivaled. From the front desk staff to the doctor. I stepped into the venue crying due to the excruciating pain in my injured finger, but shortly, I found me smiling and joking due to the effect of the immediate care that I received. I felt like I have known every staff for years. The accident I had badly ripped my finger flesh apart. By the time the doctor was done with the stitches, it was certain that my finger will heal neatly. The doctor is very confident, brilliant and I observed that he likes what he does for a living. I asked for the scope of their practice and was informed that they provide care beyond emergencies, including flu, COVID, physical, check up etc.
I had a call after about 2.5hrs, asking my relief status.
I am 100% satisfied with the care that was provided to me. I will always patronize Urgent Care Plus and Wellness as needed.
I recommend them with my full chest.
My prayers for them include unrivaled success.
Signs You May Have a Dental Abscess
Dental abscesses are infections typically caused by bacteria entering the pulp of the tooth or gum. Common symptoms include:
- Severe, throbbing tooth pain
- Swelling in the face, jaw, or cheek
- Redness or tenderness in the gums
- A pimple-like bump on the gum (may drain pus)
- Fever or swollen lymph nodes
- Sensitivity to hot, cold, or pressure
- Bad breath or a foul taste in the mouth
If you’re experiencing these symptoms, don’t wait–early intervention is critical to prevent the spread of infection.

How We Treat Dental Abscesses
At Urgent Care Plus & Wellness, we are not a dental office, but we play a vital role in evaluating and stabilizing dental abscesses until you can see a dentist.
Initial Assessment: Fast, Focused Diagnosis
When you arrive, Dr. Luke will begin with a comprehensive clinical exam of your oral cavity and surrounding facial areas. This includes:
- Visual inspection of the gums, teeth, and inner cheek
- Evaluation of any visible swelling, redness, or pus drainage
- Gentle palpation of the jaw and face to detect areas of fluctuance or cellulitis
- Temperature check to assess for fever
- Review of symptoms such as facial pain, difficulty opening the mouth, or swallowing issues
While we do not take dental X-rays in our facility, we will identify whether your condition is urgent, needs same-day dental follow-up, or requires antibiotics to prevent further spread of infection. In more severe cases involving systemic signs (e.g., high fever, facial cellulitis), we’ll help coordinate emergency or hospital-based care if needed.
Antibiotics: Infection Control & Symptom Relief
If a bacterial infection is suspected, you’ll receive a prescription for antibiotics to reduce the bacterial load and minimize the risk of systemic spread. Common antibiotics we may prescribe include:
- Amoxicillin Often first-line for uncomplicated abscesses
- Clindamycin An alternative for patients allergic to penicillin
- Augmentin For broader-spectrum coverage if the infection has spread
- Metronidazole Occasionally used in combination for anaerobic coverage
These medications help control the infection while buying time for definitive treatment from a dentist–such as drainage, root canal, or tooth extraction. We’ll also provide guidance on taking antibiotics properly and warning signs that require urgent follow-up.
