How We Diagnose & Treat Pneumonia
At Urgent Care Plus & Wellness, our approach includes:
Thorough Clinical Evaluation
Dr. Luke will review your symptoms, medical history, and listen to your lungs for crackles or diminished breath sounds. Depending on your condition, he may recommend a chest X-ray to confirm the diagnosis or rule out more serious conditions.
Targeted Treatment Plan
Once diagnosed, treatment for mild to moderate pneumonia typically includes:
- Antibiotics for bacterial pneumonia (common choices include azithromycin or doxycycline)
- Cough suppressants and expectorants to improve comfort and clear mucus
- Fever reducers like acetaminophen or ibuprofen
- Hydration guidance to aid recovery
- Inhalers or nebulizer treatments if wheezing or shortness of breath is present
- Close monitoring for symptoms that may require escalation of care
We’ll also discuss warning signs that require immediate attention, such as persistent high fever, confusion, or difficulty breathing at rest.

Symptoms of Mild to Moderate Pneumonia
Pneumonia can develop after a cold or flu–or appear suddenly. Common signs include:
- Persistent or worsening cough
- Fever and chills
- Shortness of breath (especially with exertion)
- Chest discomfort or pain when breathing
- Fatigue and body aches
- Increased mucus production (yellow, green, or blood-tinged)
- Rapid breathing or heart rate
- Feeling “off” or more tired than usual
It’s important to distinguish pneumonia from milder respiratory infections. If you feel worse after a few days of illness–or your symptoms are not improving–seek medical care right away.
