If you’ve noticed a painful red bump on your eyelid or a firm lump that doesn’t go away, you may be dealing with a stye or chalazion. Though often harmless, these eyelid issues can be irritating, unsightly, and even painful–especially when left untreated. At Urgent Care Plus & Wellness, we offer fast, walk-in treatment for styes and chalazia, helping patients in Richmond, Katy, Aliana, and surrounding communities get relief quickly.
Led by Dr. Luke Afuwape, a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician with over 15 years of clinical experience, our team is here to evaluate your symptoms, explain the difference between a stye and chalazion, and recommend the right treatment to promote healing.
It took me time to share my experience as I lack words adequately strong to convey my satisfaction. The professionalism of every staff on duty was unrivaled. From the front desk staff to the doctor. I stepped into the venue crying due to the excruciating pain in my injured finger, but shortly, I found me smiling and joking due to the effect of the immediate care that I received. I felt like I have known every staff for years. The accident I had badly ripped my finger flesh apart. By the time the doctor was done with the stitches, it was certain that my finger will heal neatly. The doctor is very confident, brilliant and I observed that he likes what he does for a living. I asked for the scope of their practice and was informed that they provide care beyond emergencies, including flu, COVID, physical, check up etc.
I had a call after about 2.5hrs, asking my relief status.
I am 100% satisfied with the care that was provided to me. I will always patronize Urgent Care Plus and Wellness as needed.
I recommend them with my full chest.
My prayers for them include unrivaled success.
Stye vs. Chalazion: What’s the Difference?
While both appear as eyelid lumps, a stye is typically a red, painful bump caused by an infected oil gland, whereas a chalazion is a firm, painless lump that results from a blocked gland and may develop more slowly.
You may be experiencing a stye or chalazion if you notice:
- Swelling on the eyelid (upper or lower)
- Localized redness or tenderness
- A firm, round bump or lump
- Increased tearing or mild irritation
- Crusting around the eyelashes
- Mild sensitivity to light
If symptoms worsen or don’t improve within a few days of home treatment, it’s time to seek professional care.

How We Treat Styes & Chalazia
At Urgent Care Plus & Wellness, we provide non-surgical, conservative treatment whenever possible. Dr. Luke will examine the affected eyelid and determine the best next steps, which may include:
- Warm compress instructions to help the gland drain
- Topical or oral antibiotics if infection is present
- Steroid eye drops or ointment to reduce inflammation
- Referral to an eye specialist if the chalazion is large or persistent
- Education on eyelid hygiene to prevent recurrence
In many cases, these conditions resolve without invasive procedures–especially when caught early.
